Death Wish Movies

The death wish movies consisted of five movies that started in 1974 and continued for 20 years. The Death Wish Movies Series was based on a 1972 novel by Brian Garfield.

The film stared Charles Bronson as a New York City accountant, Paul Kersey, who is turned into a vigilante after his wife was murdered and his daughter is beaten by a group of sadistic home invaders. After this incident Paul's life is changed forever from a person who despised violence into one of the most talented one man vigilante that the county has ever seen. He kills at least 106 people throughout the five death wish movies. After the first death wish movie was released it became clear that there were going to be sequels because of the huge financial success that it had created.

In the first death wish movie Paul had returned to the city after a business trip and discovers a gift given to him by a client. It was a nickel plated 32 cal revolver that was unregistered and untraceable. It was at this point that Paul would venture out at night where he knew that someone would attempt to mug him and then he would shoot them.

The next sequel would become known as Death wish 2. It has Kersey moving to Los Angeleswhere his daughter and housekeeper would be the next people assaulted by gang violence,but instead of acts of random killings he only goes after the low lives that attacked his daughter and housekeeper. In Death Wish 3 Kersery is back in New York and with the help of a police Lieutenant turns into a sort of Rambo figure with the use of various types of assault weapons. This is considered to be the most popular in the Death Wish series.

Death Wish 4 has Kersey moving back to Loas Angeles where he begins his one man crudase against two Los Angeles drug rings after the daughter of his girlfriend died from an overdose of drugs. Again Paul uses an assortement of weapons in his never ending war oncrime. In 1995 the final sequence, Death Wish V is realeased. This happens to also be Bronson's final theatrical role in the movie industry. It has Kersey back in New York, this time as a College Professor of architecture [who is in the witness protection program] His girlfriend is murdered by her ex husband who just happens to be an Irish mobster. Again he takes up arms to avenge her death and to help protect her daughter.

This series of films had a great following in the major cities in the U.S. especially in New York and Los Angeles. Looking back now one has to remember the incredible high crime figures. It sky rocked Broknson's popularity and he became an American icon for decades.It really didn't matter what the critics were saying about this series, the American moviegoers loved them and showed their support by goning to the movies in record numberseverytime a new series was realized. The Death Wish series was a reaction to the senseless violence that has been occuring in America, especially in the large cities.
